Lash Extension Aftercare: Make Them Last

Great lashes are half application, half aftercare. The good news: keeping your extensions full and comfortable takes only a couple of minutes a day. Here is the lash extension aftercare routine we give every client at Ola Beauty Bar.
The first 24–48 hours
- Keep lashes dry for the first 24 hours so the adhesive fully cures.
- Avoid steam, saunas, hot yoga and heavy sweating.
- Skip mascara and oily eye products entirely.
Daily cleansing (yes, really)
The single biggest retention booster is keeping lashes clean. Oil, makeup and natural skin debris break down adhesive and invite irritation. Cleanse every day or two with a lash-safe foam cleanser and a soft brush, then air-dry and fluff with a clean spoolie.
Sleeping and daily habits
- Sleep on your back or side if you can — face-down sleeping crushes lashes.
- Brush them each morning with a spoolie.
- Never pick, pull or rub. Let lashes shed naturally.
What to avoid
- Oil-based makeup, removers and cleansers near the eyes.
- Waterproof mascara and eyelash curlers.
- Cotton pads that snag (use lint-free applicators).
Keep up with fills
Aftercare protects the set you have; fills keep it full. Book every two to three weeks — read how long lash extensions last to time yours. Prefer something lower-maintenance? A Korean lash lift uses your own lashes and needs no fills.
How to wash your lashes step by step
Many clients know they should cleanse but are unsure how. Here is a simple routine that takes about two minutes.
- Wet your lashes with lukewarm water, not hot.
- Apply a small amount of lash-safe foam cleanser to a soft brush.
- Gently brush along the lash line and through the lashes using light, downward strokes.
- Rinse well so no residue is left behind.
- Pat the surrounding skin dry with a clean towel, then fluff the lashes with a clean spoolie.
If you wear eye makeup, remove it with a water-based product first and cleanse afterward. Leftover residue is one of the most common reasons lashes look sparse early.
Why fill timing affects your price
Your fill price depends on how many extensions are left when you arrive. At Ola Beauty Bar, a fill at 1-2 weeks reflects about 80% of your lashes remaining, 2-3 weeks about 60%, and 3-4 weeks about 40%. For example, a Hybrid fill is $65, $75 or $85 depending on timing. Coming in sooner usually means less time in the chair and a lower price.
If you wait too long, there may not be enough lashes left to fill, and a new set could be the better option. A Hybrid new set is $125, and a Full Volume new set is $135. New sets take about 75 minutes, while Mega and Super Mega sets take 105-135 minutes, so plan your day accordingly.
Common aftercare mistakes
- Skipping cleansing because lashes feel delicate. Dirty lashes tend to shed faster.
- Using a regular face wash that contains oils near the eyes.
- Picking at loose extensions. Pulling can take your natural lash with it.
- Rubbing your eyes with your hands or a towel.
- Trying to remove lashes at home. Please let a professional do it. Removal at our studio is $35 for our clients and $45 for lashes applied elsewhere.
